Garden planted!
Our garden is planted! We were late in planting this year as we moved into our house mid-May. But the spring has been so mild and rainy so perhaps late planting will work in our favor! And if not, who cares, the point is that we have a garden to call our own and grow delicious produce within! And it makes our house look so loved and cared for, as it is!
The garden this year did not come about without a good investment of hard work and sweat labor to get it into the fruitful condition that it is now. Here are some before, during, and after pics to show the progression of our garden:
Before:

This is the condition of the land when we bought it, hence the “before” shot.
During:

We dug up the soil, replanted the existing flowers and decorative grasses, and pulled a countless numbers of roots. Renting a tiller would have been a good idea in retrospect… shoveling that much root-bound dirt is HARD.
After:

We raked in 375 pounds (15 bags) of steer manure, dug a ‘Y’ shape, planted, and presto, a garden! Our first garden at our new house! In our funky-shaped 16 x 19 ft plot, we planted tomatoes, corn, cucumbers, cilantro, italian parsley, parsley, basil, peppers and flowers.. The annual herbs; thyme, lavender, rosemary, oregano, sage and dill will be grown in pots on the patio deck this year to make more room in the garden, for convenient location to the kitchen and bbq, and to have some decor on the patio.
Yay for gardens and yay cultivating our own little plot of land!
It looks so wonderful! And I love your picket fence!
I’m in love with that garden!!
All I’ve got is a big pot of basil (pesto!!) – with a bigger balcony next year maybe I can grow a few more herbs though.
By the way, you would LOVE the Adirondack park. Hiking, biking, kayaking, all the winter sports (though not this time of year), all wrapped up in a neat little package of towns that remind me in style of Ashland, OR.
Good day mate! I was surfing the internet Monday afternoon during my break, and found your blog by searching MSN for grow pots. This is a topic I have great interest in, and follow it closely. I liked your insight on Garden planted!, and it made for good reading. Keep up the good work…
